2008 Disneyland Challenges,
September 26-27
Congrats to all those who participated this year! There
were over double the participants than last year!
How great is it to have a bunch of super fun loving
people get together for a break from normal life!
The Beginners
started off great, and as a whole scored the most points
ever! Because of the large group and an anxious bunch
wanting to maximize their time at DL, we tried to cram
everything in before the show began, and didn’t get to
wrap things up as we usually do, with more details,
directions for the fireworks, and a chance to visit.
Those that stayed for the Billy Hill and the Hillbillies
show got to enjoy another often missed treasure of the
Disneyland entertainment.
Although we lost a few splitting the Advanced teams off
until Saturday, it would’ve been impossible to fit
everyone in at the same time this year. Disneyland
management said they would help to get a better location
for us next year.
The Advanced
teams really surprised me as to the speed in which they
finished the Autopia part of the challenge, as well as
the Dumbo part. I’m still impressed that Jared Brimhall
was able to answer one of the bonus questions about the
Dumbo on-site hidden Mickey. There are only a couple of
Disney insiders at Disneyland that knew about it. Way
to go!
The River Belle Terrace next door to the Golden
Horseshoe was offered to us as a gathering place, and it
seemed to work very well.
For those that weren’t able to make it to the Advanced
challenge and want a nibble of the challenge and the
Treasure Hunt, here was the quest:
“Commencing at the midpoint of the entrance to the journey where 3
Jack Sparrows reside, under the cross which marks the
point of beginning;
Thence 29 paces more or less, whether ye be beast or beauty, toward
the pirate ship’s berthplace, where ye find yerself
perty as a picture;
Thence 4 paces more or less headed for the abode of visionary
slumber;
to an unmovable golden colored treasure under yer saunter.
What words find ye on this treasure, the rarest and only one what’s
left, to marks the frontiers of the Disneyland estate?”
You would find the only remaining original survey brass
cap that was placed during construction of Disneyland
(the spike under Sleeping Beauty’s castle just marked
the old center of Disneyland). All the other brass caps
have been removed for new construction. If you’ve been
to Disneyland, you’ve probably walked over or near it a
dozen or more times per visit. I challenge you to try
to find it within 5 minutes, without the description
above, even if you’ve found it before.
Thank you all for participating. I just
hope you had a good time being with family,
friends, and coworkers. Thanks for the loverly (BIG!)
card, and your kind words!
Congrats to those that won Year of the Million Dreams
prizes. I saw many with FastPass lanyards. The
Wildcats got FastPass lanyards Friday and Saturday at
the exact same location (Snow White’s wishing well)
which is VERY rare. The Prince-Less team received
FastPass passes to any ride in DL and DCA for the whole
day on Friday, just for wearing cool uniforms!

We didn't take individual team photos this year. If you have pictures that you would be willing to
share with us, we would appreciate it!
